Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Passing by this place and thought there might be some good food inside Ordered: Laksa Seafood $18 Fried Keow Teow $17 The tastes are both delicious To me the keow teow is a bit oily and the laksa didn’t have much seafood in it (yes, the laksa soup is separated to the noodle because I had them takeaway and the seafood was not much - forgot to take picture) Despite those, I would probably try other dishes Note: Card surcharge 1.2% Container is charged $0.50 each"
"First time visiting in 2 years. Prices are still very reasonable. The laksa is meant to be the best in Adelaide, though I tried other things today. The curry chicken was tender and well proportioned. The wonton noodles were delicious and flavourful. As usual, their sauce station delivered great flavours to complement the meals. The staff were friendly and smiling, definitely brought value to the experience. Absolutely worth a visit, just note that they close around 4pm."
"Chinatown Cafe is an Adelaide institution and that's why it has a line out the door at lunchtime. But never fear, the service is ultra quick and the tables turn over quickly. The food is fresh, generous serves and delicious. Great value. You can serve yourself chilli oil and this amazing intense ginger sauce - make sure you try it!"
"Price was really cheaper than most Asian restaurants. Portion was huge too. Food was not bad. Ordered chicken rice and dry wanton noodles. Outdoor seatings are available. The staff was friendly and helpful."
"I've been coming here for years. Although the price of the hainess chicken and rice has gone from 10$ to now 16$ over the years it's still very delicious. I've sampled other dishes from this venue and they are ok, not amazing but not terrible. The main reason you would come here is for the hainese chicken and rice with the asien greens and spicy broth. It tastes amazing and always fills me up."
"My friend who lived in Adelaide 30 years ago told me that this restaurant had been opened since then. After my arrival to Adelaide for 6 months, finally I tried this Asian (Malaysian / Chinese) restaurant today. I didn't try it earlier because it was always packed with customers or having long queue. Besides, I considered it to be a Malaysian restaurant rather than a Chinese restaurant. Perhaps it is something between, so call it Malaysian-Chinese Restaurant might be more appropriate. I reckon most Malaysian can speak Cantonese, so I placed my order by just speaking Cantonese, and it worked well I ordered Fried Kway Teow today. The appearance was slightly different from others, but the portion size and taste were both good. The price level was reasonable, just $16. Update: Re-visited on 31 May, tried their Hainanese Chicken Rice. The portion was really big, $18 with soup and veggies ($17 if no veggies). The taste of chicken was a bit plain. The ginger rice was quite nice, though. Overall, this dish was just average. If you aim for good Hainanese Chicken Rice, I would not recommend this one as there are some better choices available in Adelaide."
"I saw many people ordering the Hainanese chicken rice, so I decided to give it a try. I chose the chicken thigh, and at $16, the value was reasonable. The taste was just average — pretty typical for an affordable meal like this."
"Everything here is absolutely delicious! I love all the dishes, but my favourite is definitely the Hainanese chicken rice. The price is very good, the service is fast, and the food is always fresh and high quality. It’s definitely my go-to place when I want a meal that is healthy, affordable, and super tasty. Highly recommended!"
